1968, Lac de Genève This oil-pastel has been drawn directly from the motif. The peacefulness conveyed by this lake, a frontier between France and Switzerland, both peaceful and ever-changing, appealed to Mennessons. The horizontal composition is a succession of curved masses, fluid like water and, like it, shimmering with cold tints, green, blue and even dark-blue. A red patch at the top on the right-hand side, is the sun which warms up the pastel and plays on the surface of the lake.
