1971, Les 4 vents n°11 par Jacques Mennessons

Linogravure sur papier E.A. - Collection particulière

After his journey to Germany in 1970, Mennessons began to direct his work towards concrete art. On the theme of the 4 winds of the mind, he created a series of 11 lino-etchings, each of them being a single print, in which the colours, limited to four, rotate on the four sides of a square. It is his new way of expressing motion. Here black, orange, purple and white revolve about from a central round from which, like the wings of a windmill, jointed arms and triangles stick out. From then on Mennessons’s works were to be signed at the back in order to avoid disturbing the strict geometrical order by nervously-scratched writing.
